The Astronaut Is a motorized do-it-yourself project kit you build that can be powered by a solar cell or by one "AA" battery. Looks somewhat like the "load lifter" from Aliens minus the big robot arms. It`s easy to imagine this thing walking across the lunar or martian landscape relaying images back to NASA. Or lumbering out of a space ship to panicked screams. You can also learn something with this kit like how a solar module can power a gearbox, how to build a gearbox and how automatic transmissions and motors work. A slide switch lets you select between sun or battery powered operation so the Astronaut works even on a cloudy day. The Astronaut can also be powered by a 100W halogen bulb. Comes with all parts required including motor, plates, gearbox, gears, shafts, connectors, battery holder, slide switch, metal feet, "mask", and solar panel. The instructions are easy to follow and no soldering is required. You will need a screwdriver and long nose pliers to assemble (not included).
